Where is Nagaland? How to reach Nagaland ?

The question seems obvious for the locals but sometimes it is hard to get details of some places for tourists even for the slightest informations. Here are some basic details you should know about Nagaland.

Nagaland the 16th state of the Indian Union was formed on 1st December 1963 with Kohima as its capital. With all the  lovely valleys, beautiful mountains, hills, rivers, colorful traditional attires, festivals and endless mesmerizing things and most importantly the amazing people of Nagaland filled with warmth heart, hospitable who loves fashions, music and dances is what makes me have a firm  believe that mother nature might have been in a good mood when he created Nagaland. What is the major language of Nagaland ?

  There are around 17 tribes in Nagaland and each tribes have their own distinct languages, but don’t worry you do not need to know all those local languages to be in Nagaland (YEAH!!!). First and foremost let me remind you that English is considered to be the official language of Nagaland so communication gap won’t be a major problem as almost all millennial knows how to speak and write English and majority of the educated older peoples. Apart from local dialects and English, Nagas speak a common language “Nagamese” which can be understood by all the peoples of Nagaland. If you are a native speaker of Assamese or Hindi it will be a bonus because most common words in Nagamese are relatable to them.

Geographical area and location of Nagaland

 Nagaland is located at the North-eastern part of Indian having an area of 16,579 square kilometers (6,401 sq. mi) with a population of 1,980,602 as per the 2011 Census of India.The state lies between the geographical coordinates of 25°6′ and 27°4′ north latitudes and 93°20′ and 95°15′ east longitude. Nagaland shares international border along with some Indian states as Assam in the North and West, Myanmar and Arunachal Pradesh in the East and Manipur in the South.

Before that do not forget that Dimapur is the commercial hub of Nagaland and it is the only District so far (at the time am writing this blog) which have rail and Airline connectivity to major cities of the country.   1. Kohima – It is the Capital Of Nagaland. The major inhabitant are Angami tribe.
  2. Kiphire – It is inhabited by Yimchungrü, Sangtam and Sumi tribes.
  3. Longleng – It is inhabited by Phom tribe.
  4. Dimapur – It is inhabited by mixed tribe.
  5.  Noklak – It is inhabited by Khiamniungan tribe.
  6. Mokokchung – It is inhabited by Ao tribe.
  7. Mon – It is inhabited by Konyak tribe.
  8. Peren – It is inhabited by Zeliangrong tribe.
  9. Phek – It is inhabited by  Chakhesang tribe
  10. Tuensang – It is inhabited by Chang.
  11. Wokha – It is inhabited by Lotha tribe.
  12. Zunheboto – It is inhabited by Sumi Tribe.
